Can I Connect Red And Black Wires Together
Camila Farah
I m assuming you mean a light and not an outlet because otherwise you would not have a red wire just be careful or get someone who knows what they are doing to help.
You can link two red wires together or you can link a red wire to a black wire. Connect the black wire to either of the brass screws on the outlet it doesn t matter which one and the red wire to the other brass screw. Now connect the other 2 wires left black red to the other 2 screws that are left. Ask your own electrical question.
Since red wires conduct current they are considered hot. One of my breakers tripped last week and wouldn t reset so it needs to be replaced. This is a double breaker with a black and red wire. If the switch that was there is a standard light switch with two brass screws on it and one green screw you can connect the red wire to either of the brass screws.
If you want the red and blue will have the switch only control the light and the fan will work on the pull chain independantly if left connected black to black. Connect the black wire from the power source to the black screw on the switch. You can think of the hot lead usually black or red as out and the neutral lead white as back or return. If the two wires are connected with each other with no load such as a light or a toaster in between the current will flow but it will only heat the wires briefly until the circuit breaker trips.

Connect the box red wire to both the black and blue fan wires and both will work off the switch. If you have a ground wire connect the ground wire to the green screw. The switch with the black wire is the one that won t reset. Ok your harnes should have came with red yellow and black cables but whatever check it out you can connect the yellow and red together to the power source on the the harnest and the ground you can just attach it to any srew around the stere housing as long as the srew is connected to the car cause your car is ground.
My plan is to simply swap the black wires until i can replace the breaker. I have an unused single breaker with one black wire.
