Can I Do Squats After Giving Birth
Camila Farah
You can start doing your pelvic floor exercises kegels as soon as possible after the birth.
Yes it is perfectly safe to do squats after giving birth. Working your pelvic floor will help to protect you against leaking wee stress incontinence. You also might not be as mobile as you used to be. You may find that you ll need to modify the exercise immediately postpartum.
The usual waiting time to do anything strenous is 6 weeks for a natural vaginal delivery and possibly 8 or more for a cesearean section. You may only be able to do 10 minutes of exercise to begin with but you will gradually get stronger. Beyond that a lot will depend on how active you were during your pregnancy and what type of labour and birth you had. You won t be as strong as you used to be.
I would honestly hold off because you are. In fact some prenatal yoga classes include squats as preparation for labor and birth.
