Can I Use Vicks Around My Dog
Olivia Luz
Generally the smell will repel the dog and there will be no harm done.
To deal with the additional attention a female dog may be receiving especially if a male dog is in the home the owner may want to use vicks vapor rub at the base of the tail. If it goes to lick it give a firm no and redirect your dog to a toy. She may not be ill so just keep her from it for now. The scent of the vicks vapor rub helps to deter male dogs from the area.
I wouldn t use the vicks on her for a couple reasons first the petroleum base will likely give her diarrhea when she licks at it and secondly the menthol in it can cause chemical burns on their skin because the fur traps it. A plain humidifier is perfectly fine though. And if we have compromised lungs already this could inflame the lung tissue and make things worse. Changing your dog s walking times can be a very practical solution to this problem.
Taking advantage of quieter hours of the day means you can take a female dog in heat out for a walk without having to worry about male dogs bothering them. The smell of vicks vapor rub and other ointments with menthol as their base can set your nose tingling and your eyes watering. The menthol vapors can give animals upper respratory infections. So we d not want to use anything but plain steam for skeeter.

However when they are in heat it is recommended you keep them on leash. It is not a medication recommended for dogs due to the toxicity attributed to the core ingredients. However try to keep the female dog from consuming it. It s safe to use around dogs.
However some dogs especially puppies may just be more adventurous and not able to resist the touch and taste experience of this new smell. Yes it can make her ill. If you try vicks vapor rub watch and see how your dog behaves before leaving it alone. He might not like the smell but it won t hurt him.
