Stabilizing A Half Wall On Concrete Floor
Olivia Luz
I have tapped the concrete with redheads and lag anchors.
Predrill them with a hammer drill and fasten according to directions. I am constructing two walls in a nursery 1. This gives some space for the debris that accumulates at the bottom. This is a short video on anchoring a wooden wall onto a concrete floor.
I ve not done too much of this so do your research. Make sure to predrill each lag screw. What methods can i use to keep free ends of the wall from swaying and possibly collapsing if someone leans against them too hard. Drill a 3 8 hole through the floor plate with a standard wood bit then switch to a hammer drill with a 3 8 masonry bit to drill at least a couple inches into the concrete.
You want the hole to be deeper than the bolt by at least 1 2 or more. Another option is to sheath the wall with plywood. Another method is to run the half wall 4 4 outer post down into the framing and to bolt it to a joist or similar blocking and use 2 1 2 through bolts to attach 4 4 wood posts to the floor system. You can tile right over the plywood if you use mastic.

It keeps the wall to the floor but there is still play in the frame of the wall.
